Here’s why I won’t be swapping for a 2025 BMW M4 LCI

Like death and taxes, BMW releasing an LCI (or Life-Cycle Impulse) on your still-new model is most certain. And now, the time has come for the 2025 BMW M4 Coupe and G83 M4 Convertible (you want the vert). What’s changed, and do I want one? Keep in mind, the M3’s update isn’t released yet, but…

Like death and taxes, BMW releasing an LCI (or Life-Cycle Impulse) on your still-new model is most certain. And now, the time has come for the 2025 BMW M4 Coupe and G83 M4 Convertible (you want the vert). What’s changed, and do I want one? Keep in mind, the M3’s update isn’t released yet, but will no doubt carry over many elements.

The changes on the exterior of the 2025 BMW M4

The exterior gets the most updating. After all, you want everyone to know your M4 is the new one, not the gross old one. We start at the front:

“Oh, cool headlights!”

Yes, indeed, they look cool. But they lose the laser function, and that means BMW made the car worse:

“At around 600 meters, the BMW Laserlight delivers twice the visibility range of the LED headlights. The light emitted by a laser is converted into white light using phosphorus. The phosphorus area is so small that it comes very close to an ideal point light source.”

In the rear, things do actually get better with the addition of LED taillights from the current M4 CSL. Every M4 gets them, and it’s a nice look. Surely, pre-LCI bros will swap. Elsewhere, you get an optional graphics package that adds M decals on the hood and trunk lid. Order this with the sunroof, and BMW paints the steel roof black. You know how I feel about that.

There are some new additions to the color palette (is that Chalk and Wildberry?) Finally, another nice update is a set of new wheels. They look very close to the 825M set available, but now offer a fully-painted silver face as oppose to the bi-color look.

If you opt for the xDrive model, you get a totally unnecessary additional 20 horsepower. Regular rear-wheel drive Competition models stick with 503, and the lowly manual model stays at 473. Torque output remains the same for both base and Competition models.

Inside, the car gets iDrive 8.5, which apparently comes with the ability to yell at it to change the temperature. How’s that work, by the way?

“Hey BMW, I’m cold. Do I need the heat on 75, or 76 degrees?”

The steering wheel is also new, and I must say very nice. Full Alcantara, a flat bottom (finally), and red center stripe.

How much does the 2025 BMW M4 cost?

Last year, BMW raised the price on the M4 by well over $2,000 and gave you nothing in return, so at least when they increase the price yet again for 2025, you’re getting new toys.

The manual M4 Coupe now has an MSRP of $80,095, the M4 Competition is $84,195 (both $1,000 more than last year), and the the M4 Competition xDrive goes to $89,295. Want to go topless? The M4 Competition xDrive Convertible is now an eye-watering $96,295. Both xDrive models go up two grand.

Pardon me, but this is all bullshit. A 2022 BMW M4 had a base price of $72,995. In less than three years, the car has gone up in price seven thousand dollars?! We buy them, I know, so perhaps we’re partially to blame, but perhaps we’ll be buying a few less with such rampant gouging.

It’s no surprise I’m keeping the M3, with all the work done to it. But even if it were stock I’d be gripping the keys tightly. I never liked the single screen, and with the headlights being downgraded and price rising so much, I might as well light the money on fire.

But maybe you don’t have an M4 yet. So if you want one, you can go down to the BMW store tomorrow to place an order, and production starts in March of 2024.
