I’m not supposed to tell you. Not really. I barely know myself when and where 7’s day in NYC will take place. Truth is, it happens everywhere, and nowhere at the same time. How it’s managed to stay secret for this long, I do not know.
But in 2024, the secret was out.
What is 7s day?
7/7 – that’s the day chosen to honor Mazda’s now long-dead sports coupe, the RX-7. Though really, if you have a rotary engine spinning under your hood, you’re welcome.
In a way, I feel bad for the rotary Mazda owners; isn’t this day about you? I saw them all, a bit scattered. That’s because it was packed way more than usual. Could be because July 7 fell on a weekend evening, or because social media keeps no secrets anymore.
Where is it? I won’t tell, though if you’re familiar with the tri-state area, the park it begins in is familiar enough.
Given the size of the crowd (and the youths that made up a majority of it), I elected to stay out of the NYC cruise portion. Turns out that was a good thing, as some people got in trouble with the law and ruined it for many. Going through Times Square is no joke, so if you elect to go next year, please behave yourself and try not to ruin it for everyone. It’s a special night.
7’s day in NYC is the best kind of car show
I’ve been going to far few events this year. Reviewing cars has fed my automotive fix, and to be honest, I’ve seen it all by now.
I missed last year’s event, but 7’s day remains one of my favorite because wow, you really do get everything. Nothing else is like this. You name it – from exotics to Civics, it’s here.
There is something to be said for walking around like you’re inside a Gran Turismo game.
7’s day is celebrated across the country, from Pennsylvania to Florida, and on the west coast. I admit to being jealous – the 3000GT community never had a day like this. At least I got to see a few there.
I look forward to attending next year, and every year, until all the rotary engines have left this earth.
