New car day. Perhaps not as revered as birthday (yours or your kids’), or wedding day (right?) – but otherwise, a core memory for car people. And uh, it’s here! Mrs. Machines’ new 2025 BMW X3 M50 that is.
It’s so new in fact, that BMW only certified it for release yesterday. I hadn’t seen it before, and now I own one, which is weird because I see everything. So let’s take a look!
What do I like about the 2025 BMW X3?
For starters, it’s a little bigger than the G01, especially in the back seat. As the parent of a seven-year-old that’s already almost five feet, I can tell you we all appreciate it.
The technology is updated, but the X3 keeps the iDrive knob so many others have ditched. I’ll have to play around with iDrive 9, but maybe I’m just old and grumpy because I miss the E9X days – there’s a lot of crap on the screen.
The new front seats are appreciated – my wife and I both were starting to hate the old ones. These now have more adjustments, and lumbar support on both sides.
On the outside, Vegas Red looks terrific – no black trim to take away from it either. Also, 20-inch all-season tires. I know summer rubber is better, but I’m done carrying up 250 pounds of wheels twice a year from the basement. The base 19s on the G01 were too small and made the car look goofy. Beware though – run flats are gone, and there’s a space saver spare.
Lastly, there’s more M here. More exhausts, more M badges, more M colors. With the death of the X3 M and no replacement in sight, I guess this is as good as it gets. Nice compromise if you ask me.
Okay, so what’s wrong with it?
Remember, I never saw one before. So I was surprised that there’s no ambient light in the rear (the G01 had it), and there’s a wiff of cheapness about the car as a whole inside. If the X2 punches above its price class, the X3 doesn’t quite as much.
Mrs. Machines is a bit bummed that the sunroof doesn’t open. It is nice and big though.
I’ve really hoped by now that BMW would give the X3 a power steering column. I’m tired of getting in after my wife and, if I forget to lift the wheel, hitting my plums on the bottom of said circle. At least the wheels is flat.
The old X3’s key sometimes didn’t register who was driving, or God forbid we both had a fob on us. Now there’s keys, an app, a digital key card…and yet no Comfort Access on the rear doors.
BMW, married people share cars. Stop this nonsense.
What’s it like to drive?
A review will come in a few weeks time, but it’s absolutely a smoother drive than the outgoing model. I reserve judgement until the car is broken in a bit.
Where did you get your 2025 BMW X3?
Where I get all my BMWs for the past few years – Circle BMW, in Eatontown, NJ. They have been kind and fair, so reach out if you’re in the market.
Absolutely no one sponsors the blog, so there’s no “MWS” special treatment.
What happened to your old X3 M40i?
I can only assume it will head to the used car lot at Circle, as I left it in good shape with about 40,000 miles. A long-term wrap up will follow shortly.
Hey, where’s the M3?
Probably still a Coke can somewhere. It’s scheduled for production later this fall.
